Background Story

“Life is all about toughing it out.”
Devara is not a person, but rather a form of inheritance. Over two thousand years ago, a catastrophe nearly destroyed the Azuria Archipelago. Devara worked with a giant beast to stir up the ocean, using Amrita to contain, but not fully eliminate, the catastrophe. To end it for good, Devara sealed and passed down his knowledge and abilities. Those acknowledged by the inheritance will gain the knowledge and abilities of all previous Devaras, inherit the name Devara, and rule Azuria. The current Devara awakened seven years ago. The young man, who once wished for a leisurely life, now bears the burden of a thousand-year inheritance. With the catastrophe on the verge of eruption, he strives to find a path to survival for Azuria across millennia.
Character Relationships
Of all the surviving great beasts in Azuria, Garuda has preserved the greatest clarity of mind. For that reason, Devara sees him as an important bridge between humans and the great beasts. For all his thousand years of existence, Garuda can still seem somewhat naive to Devara, and at times he comes across as downright silly yet adorable.
Even before Devara awakened, he already knew that among all the islands of Azuria, Nectam was the most traditional. After awakening as Devara, he got to know Lapulapu, the chief of Nectam, and couldn't help thinking—the so-called king of the conservatives really is nothing more than an old-at-heart youngster.
